AWEA's Hensley: Utility, non-utility demand for wind is thriving
Utility and non-utility demand for renewables such as wind continues to climb as costs fall, said John Hensley, senior director of industry data and analysis at the American Wind Energy Association. He noted that power purchase agreements between wind farms and corporate buyers hit a multi-year high in the first quarter of 2018.

Alliant contracts Invenergy to build 210-MW Richland Wind Farm
Alliant Energy has selected Invenergy to build the 210-megawatt Richland Wind Farm in Sac County, Iowa, which will likely begin operations in 2020. Alliant says the project will infuse "tens of millions of dollars" into the area's economy and create more than 150 jobs in construction.

NextEra Energy prepares Iowa site for wind farm
NextEra Energy has begun preparing a site in Audubon County, Iowa, for its Heartland Divide Wind Energy Center and will begin construction later this month, says Mitch Rydl, an engineer with the county. Turbine delivery is scheduled for October.

Orsted readies buoy to study Atlantic City, N.J., offshore wind feasibility
Orsted is preparing to release a buoy off the coast of Atlantic City, N.J., that would provide data on the area's potential for offshore wind development. Depending on the results, Orsted and state officials said the company might build a project that could help the state meet its goal of 3,500 megawatts in wind energy by 2030.

NextEra Energy Resources recently teamed up with Future Farmers of America to take 16 FFA advisers on a three-day tour across Oklahoma, highlighting the complementary nature of wind and farming. IRENA: Countries are moving to market-based competitive-bidding models
The UK, Mexico, Germany and other countries are moving away from feed-in tariffs and other support mechanisms in favor of market-based competitive bidding for renewables, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency. "As the sector evolves, the question for governments about what support level to provide is answered by: Let the market tell you," said IRENA program officer Diala Hawila.
