Wind energy's growth in Maine rides on gubernatorial election
The future of wind energy in Maine will largely depend on the outcome of the state's upcoming gubernatorial election, said panelists during the American Wind Energy Association's Northeast conference Tuesday. Maine Renewable Energy Association Executive Director Jeremy Payne said his group's member companies are considering between $3 billion and $5 billion worth of wind-related investments, depending on the outcome of the election.

Sierra Club: Switch to renewables could save Utahns millions of dollars
PacifiCorp subsidiary Rocky Mountain Power could save ratepayers in Utah millions of dollars by shuttering some of its coal-burning power plants and switching to wind and other renewables, the Sierra Club says, citing a new Energy Strategies report. "Prices for solar and wind are coming in at extraordinarily low values, so it's difficult for at least half these units to compete with those types of prices," report author Jeff Burks explains.

Report: Mont. electrical grid is ready for more wind generation
Montana's electrical grid is capable of supporting more wind-generating capacity, which would help the state meet the Pacific Northwest's growing demand for renewables, according to a report from Bonneville Power Administration and the state. Gov. Steve Bullock praised the report: "With this effort we're boosting the opportunities for more energy development in Montana and making Montana wind more attractive for West Coast buyers."
