Share The Video: Little Blue - A Broken Promise.

Home is where our hearts and hopes reside—where we expect to raise families free from life's perils. But what if a deadly poison was slowly invading your home from the world's biggest coal ash dump? What if you discovered this years after being assured that toxic waste is actually good for your neighborhood?

Our new documentary tells the true story of families on the Pennsylvania/West Virginia border who are living this nightmare and are standing up against the coal-fired power plant that dumped the coal ash.

More than 200 bodies of water have been poisoned by coal ash in communities across America but this community is fighting back and inspiring others to do the same.

Please help us spread the word to let people know there is hope. Watch "Little Blue: A Broken Promise" and share it with your friends.

Sincerely,

Michigan activists join hundreds of thousands calling for action on climate change

Hundreds of Michigan activists joined with many thousands of others to advocate for global action to address climate change in the People's Climate March in New York City on Sept. 21. "We'll take to the streets to demand the world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs,...

Four major health systems commit to buying furniture without toxic flame retardants

In a reflection of the momentum building to eliminate an unnecessary health threat, four major health systems announced earlier this month that they will stop purchasing furniture treated with toxic flame retardant chemicals. Combined, these four health systems, including Michigan's Beaumont Health System, represent 7,000 patient beds throughout Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, and Ohio. "The...

'Food Day' celebration aims to reduce antibiotics in animal agriculture

In recent years, many hospitals and health-care systems have expanded their roles as stewards of antibiotics, and one way they're doing that is to use their purchasing power and authority to support sustainable food policies and farmers who don't misuse these medicines.

As part of that initiative, many organizations including the Ecology Center are supporting a national initiative to encourage health-care facilities to serve at least one meat item raised without routine antibiotics on Food Day, Oct. 24.

Harold Stokes, longtime environmental activist, remembered

Harold Stokes "could be counted on, even into his 80s, to come out to every event put on by the Ecology Center, to hold a sign, sing a song, march, speak, take action," according to Tracey Easthope, environmental health program director at the Ecology Center. "He marched the longest, held the sign the highest, moved the fastest (even though he was often the oldest person in the group by decades)...
