AWEA: More than 1,000 leaders flocked to Offshore WINDPOWER
The American Wind Energy Association's Offshore WINDPOWER Conference in New York drew broad support from about 1,000 government officials, academics, business leaders and other individuals from around the world, according to AWEA. CEO Tom Kiernan said participants felt a sense of urgency to embrace the US offshore wind industry from the ground up as it creates jobs and helps the country secure energy independence.

St. Louis adopts 100% by 2035 goal
St. Louis has become the latest US city to adopt a 100% renewables by 2035 goal after the St. Louis Board of Aldermen unanimously approved it on Friday. "St. Louis' commitment to 100% clean energy sends a powerful signal: Even in communities with long ties to coal, the benefits of clean energy are too great to ignore," said Sierra Club Beyond Coal Campaign Organizer for the Greater St. Louis Area Sara Edgar.

Branson calls for clean energy transition in Caribbean
A proposal from Virgin founder Richard Branson calls for the Caribbean to switch to clean energy as it rebuilds after Hurricanes Irma and Maria. BMR Energy CEO Bruce Levy, whose company operates Jamaica's 11-turbine wind farm, said renewables help island nations reduce fossil fuel consumption and save money, which is good for their local economies.

MidAmerican's Iowa wind farms produce record-breaking power

MidAmerican Energy's wind farms in Iowa generated enough energy to power 100% of its customers' electricity needs on Oct. 23 and 24, said spokeswoman Tina Hoffman. "It's one of the great resources in Iowa and what we are able to do is use that to provide electricity for customers," she said.

Dong to rebrand as Orsted on Tuesday
Dong Energy will officially change its name to Orsted on Tuesday, according to the company. "The reason for the name change is that after the comprehensive strategic transformation from black to green energy, our old name no longer matched the company," said Orsted Board Chairman Thomas Thune Andersen.

Four state lawmakers in Massachusetts have written a letter to state Department of Energy Resources Commissioner Judith Judson unanimously objecting to new wind farms in Somerset. Five wind farms have been proposed for the area as part of a request for proposals to expand New England's installed renewable energy capacity.

EDF should use in-state workers for N.Y. wind farm, says labor group
EDF Renewable Energy shouldn't contract out-of-state workers to build a wind farm in Lewis County, N.Y., especially because they would get paid a lower wage, according to the New York State Laborers Organizing Fund. "We should be using the state's limited development resources to fund projects that provide middle class jobs," said Director John Hutchings.
