Hybrid vehicles generated an incredible amount of news last month, starting with the 2005 Tokyo Motor show. As the “Big Three” American automakers scramble to catch up to the Japanese in terms of hybrid design, the Japanese are having trouble keeping pace with themselves: Seems Toyota can’t quite meet the U.S. demand for their best-selling Prius (for more on Toyota, read our case study).

The news out of Tokyo was hardly surprising, of course, given that hybrid vehicles -- many of them Japanese -- again topped the U.S. government’s list of fuel-efficient vehicles. Does the U.S. have a chance to even the playing field? In “Have Your Riven a Ford Lately?” company green-guru Niel Golightly gives us an inside look at how the biggest of the “Big Three” is carving out a market for its climate-conscious cars.
