USDA to Green Light Next-Gen GMOs?

Stocking your cupboard with food that isn't genetically engineered won't get easier anytime soon. The USDA recently gave the go-ahead to a new generation of modified corn and soy, dismissing the significant harms posed by them and the toxic herbicide they were manufactured to resist.

Navy Training Plans Threaten Marine Animals

The National Marine Fisheries Service has okayed Navy training exercises near Hawaiʻi and Southern California that would, by the agency's own estimate, cause nearly 9.6 million instances of harm to whales, dolphins, turtles and other marine mammals—including 155 marine mammal deaths and more than 2,000 permanent injuries. Earthjustice has sued both the agency and the Navy, demanding that they explore ways to reduce the damage.

Wolf Pack Extermination Under Way in Wilderness

A hunter-trapper hired by the State of Idaho has been exterminating two wolf packs within the 2.4-million-acre Frank Church—River of No Return Wilderness. Instead of protecting the wilderness, the U.S. Forest Service is assisting Idaho's killing program.

PA Court Decision Upholds Local Limits on Fracking

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court recently struck down a state law that ran roughshod over community efforts to protect themselves from fracking for oil and gas. Earthjustice participated in the Pennsylvania case, and is currently defending similar efforts in Ohio and New York.

Washington County to
Revive Salmon Streams

In one of the largest settlements of its kind, Washington County has agreed to put $3 million of funding into stream restoration and pollution reduction that will protect Columbia River salmon. The settlement comes after years of Earthjustice litigation and several court findings that the County was violating the law by failing to reduce stormwater runoff.
