capacity grew by about 7900 MW in 2004, 300 MW less than
added a year earlier. The grand end-2004 total is 47,400 MW,

* Seen from on high
Putting together our special status issue each winter is a
monumental task. It involves all the correspondents (currently
19) and is enough to drive editors to drink. The main message
is that 2005 is going to be a cracking good year -- at least for
land based development. Offshore, the tenor of our reporting is
not as upbeat. There are plenty of grandiose plans, but
precious little construction activity on most of them. What
seems to be happening is a long drawn out waiting game.
