Innovation will help renewables balance grid reliability, say experts
Innovation will play a major role in ensuring grid reliability as clean energy sources like wind account for a growing share of electrical generation, says Brattle Group energy consultant Judy Chang. Midcontinent Independent System Operator Executive Director of System Operations Renuka Chatterjee said utilities are making progress on wind forecasting, and firms are spacing turbines to align with wind patterns.

Trump dismissive of wind at Iowa rally
President Donald Trump criticized wind at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Wednesday even though the state sources almost one-third of its electricity from the energy source. "I don't want to just hope the wind blows to light up your homes," said Trump. "Iowa reliably generates >36% of its electricity using #windpower, has over 8K #windpower jobs, and over 2K well-paying factory #jobs," American Wind Energy Association CEO Tom Kiernan said on Twitter.
