The US Energy Information Administration reports the country's wind turbines are, on average, 280 feet high, whereas few reached that height before 2006. This change also improves efficiency: "Wind speed typically increases with altitude and increases over open areas without windbreaks such as trees or buildings," states the report.

AWEA's Kiernan: GOP tax overhaul would hurt wind sector
The GOP House tax overhaul would have a negative impact on half of the new wind farms planned or under construction, says Tom Kiernan, CEO of the American Wind Energy Association. "Under the House version they would either suffer a retroactive tax hike, or be forced to walk away and break contracts for manufacturing and construction work that thousands of American workers are counting on," says Kiernan.
