Pattern wind farm to feature Uptake predictive software
Pattern Energy will install Uptake's predictive software at its 87-turbine, 200-megawatt Logan's Gap Wind site in Texas, according to a new agreement between the firms. "Deploying Uptake's software will reduce downtime and increase the number of megawatts Pattern Energy's turbines produce," said Uptake Vice President of Renewable Energy Ryan Blitstein.

Southwestern Electric Power has reached a settlement agreement in Arkansas in which it would own 70% of the 2-gigawatt Wind Catcher wind farm slated for Oklahoma, while its sister company, Public Service Co. of Oklahoma, would control a 30% stake. "Wind Catcher will help companies, universities, cities and other customers meet their sustainability and renewable energy goals," said SWEPCO President and Chief Operating Officer Venita McCellon-Allen.

Opinion: Cities are leading on climate change but need help
Cities across the US are leading the nation's fight against climate change, but they also recognize that support is needed at all levels, which is why 233 mayors from 46 states and territories are petitioning the Trump administration to maintain the Clean Power Plan, writes Henry Henderson, director of the Natural Resources Defense Council's Midwest Program. He argues that one of the benefits of the CPP is its ability to mobilize a shift to clean energy -- an advantage that is gaining public support nationwide.

Avangrid Renewables CEO: Mass. offshore project would spark life in industry
Avangrid Renewables is hopeful that Massachusetts will pick the first phase of an up to 3-gigawatt offshore wind farm from Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners as the winner of its first offshore wind request for proposals because the project's 2021 start date would help bring the emerging industry to scale quickly, said Avangrid Renewables President and CEO Laura Beane. She added that pursuing offshore wind in the US is the "next frontier" for the firm, especially as costs fall and siting issues become a bigger issue for land-based wind and transmission projects.

R&D into bigger offshore turbines key to driving down costs, says expert
The European offshore wind industry is established, but more research on the development of higher capacity turbines is needed if the industry wants to continue to cut costs and unlock further innovation, said WindEurope CEO Giles Dickson in a meeting with European Commission representatives this week. "We need to mobilize the European research capacity of universities and public research institutes to help industry develop competitive technology and keep our edge over China, the US and India," he said.
