The American Wind Energy Association announces that registration is now available for two upcoming educational workshops detailed below.

Siting Wind Power Projects in the Eastern U.S.
March 8 - 9, 2005
The Fairmont Copley Plaza
Boston, Massachusetts, USA

This day and a half workshop will focus on the various ways in which wind power projects affect – and don’t affect – elements of the human and natural environment. The program will include presentations on emerging issues of project siting, such as bat interactions and wildlife survey techniques, and address ways in which to build support for wind projects.

Workshop topics include:

  • Permitting and Procedural Issues – including Environmental Impact Reviews, siting boards, local permitting processes and endangered species / migratory bird issues
  • Wildlife Studies and Tools – past experience and current practices
  • Emerging Wildlife Topics – including bird and bat interaction research as well as habitat considerations
  • Non-Avian Technical Issues such as Aesthetics, Sound and Lighting – what to anticipate and how to respond
  • Practical Considerations of Community, Agency and Advocate Relations – lessons learned about effective interaction with key stakeholders
  • Offshore Project Siting – current state of offshore wind energy
Transmission Workshop: Wind Energy Delivery and Reliability
March 30 - 31, 2005

Co-Sponsored by the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA)
and the Utility Wind Interest Group (UWIG)

This day and a half workshop will focus on wind integration and utility questions about reliability concerns, costs, hydro synergies and grid codes. Answers will be provided by experts reporting on the latest studies and experience from economics and engineering perspectives.

Workshop topics will include:

  • Wind and Grid Operation Stability – including variability of wind and load and improved voltage stability with wind
  • European Approach to Wind Integration – experience in Europe
  • Mixing Water and Wind on the Grid –- hydro integration and forecasting wind and water
  • Interconnection Strategies and Issues – choices from turbine to utility line and managing distribution-level wind connections
  • Reliability and Planning with Wind – capacity value: Do’s and Don'ts
  • Meeting Grid Voltage Standards – summary of proposed voltage ride through standards from AWEA / WECC / NERC
