Biodiesel--National Biodiesel Board

Tell Us About Your Use of Biodiesel in the Cold

With snow blanketing much of the Midwest and temperatures dipping into the single digits in some areas, biodiesel blend users can rest assured that with proper precautions, vehicles powered with biodiesel blends can stand up to these conditions.

Like regular diesel fuel, biodiesel will gel in cold weather. But B20 can be treated for winter use, in similar ways that No. 2 diesel is treated. Using B20 throughout the winter months just takes a little preparation and good fuel management practices. A good fuel distributor will make sure your fuel is treated for optimum cold weather performance.

For more information on biodiesel use in cold weather –- including a news release, testimonials, audio clips, and technical information -- visit www.biodiesel.org/cold.

Midwesterners are also using Bioheat® heating oil to keep their homes and offices warm this winter. For more information on Bioheat® heating oil visit www.biodiesel.org.

If you’re using biodiesel in a cold weather setting and you’d like to share your story, please let us know.
