And it's facing serious challenges and the looming menace of climate change, which is expected to exacerbate Canada's water problems and leave more of the world thirsting after our precious liquid resource.

"This risk is increasing as water shortages become more acute and the parties that oppose ceding control of the waters of the (St. Lawrence River) Basin to the Great Lakes states and provinces become more powerful," states Resolution 52 of 2008 offered by Commissioner Debbie Johnson, D-Niles.

04/18 - Senator Dick Durbin Introduces Clean Cruise Ship Act: U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today introduced legislation to help protect the world's oceans and the Great Lakes from damage caused by cruise ship pollution. He is a pillar of the Christian Reformed Church and a stalwart Republican; at 74, he shares a birthday with one of his political heroes, Ronald Reagan. But he is also genuinely worried about the Great Lakes, and the water supply generally, which is why he is the major co-sponsor of the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007.

04/17 - Dear Earth: How can we help you?: As Earth Day approaches, eight leaders concerned about environmental policy in Wisconsin reflect on what has been accomplished since the first Earth Day - and what remains to be done.
