AWEA's Hensley: Wind is a major economic driver in Iowa | Opinion: Trump, Pence underestimate economic value of clean energy jobs | Block Island to begin operations this week
Wind generated more than 35% of Iowa's electricity between September 2015 and August 2016 and continues to buoy the state's economy, writes American Wind Energy Association Manager of Industry Data and Analysis John Hensley. "The truth is, wind power creates good jobs, saves money and brings new financial resources to communities across Iowa," he writes.
President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence don't understand the importance of clean energy jobs to the nation's economy, argues Jim Marston, Environmental Defense Fund vice president of clean energy and Texas regional office director. "Across the country, in red states and blue, Americans want the next generation of job growth to come from technologies and industries that create local jobs and keep our communities clean and healthy," he writes.

A bill that would make Ohio's Renewable Portfolio Standard voluntary until 2020 could cost the state valuable jobs and investment opportunities, while also discouraging competition, according to this analysis. "As a state, we can embrace a cleaner energy source and help communities and businesses create jobs to build a sustainable energy future," said Green Energy Ohio Executive Director Bill Spratley.
Renewables like wind and solar could be a boon to Ohio's economy, providing rural farmers and landowners with a much-needed source of revenue, writes Jerry Zielke, director of Paulding County Economic Development. Zielke argues that the state's decision to freeze its Renewable Portfolio Standard has deterred wind development and that state lawmakers should vote against extending the freeze.
