Wind Catcher project will benefit Okla. economy, says landowner
The Public Service Company of Oklahoma's proposed 800-turbine Wind Catcher Energy Connection project is more than a clean energy source -- it's also a valuable economic driver that will keep the surrounding communities strong, according to Matt Gard, a local farmer and landowner. "The multiplier effect for every dollar spent in a small community is phenomenal," he said.

Calif. governor, Statoil exec discuss offshore wind potential
California Gov. Jerry Brown met with Statoil Senior Vice President for Corporate Sustainability Bjorn Otto Sverdrup while in Norway this month to discuss the future of offshore wind development. "Bjorn shared our work on climate and they discussed opportunities for offshore wind in North America, including California," said a Statoil spokeswoman.

Vestas to supply N.D. wind farm with 29 turbines
Capital Power has ordered 29 V126 3.45-megawatt turbines from Vestas for its 100.05-MW New Frontier project in North Dakota, according to the companies. "Using the state-of-the-art V126-3.45MW model in North Dakota will provide greater wind capture and produce more energy at a lower cost, making this project an excellent asset to our growing North American wind fleet," said Capital Power Senior Vice President of Operations, Engineering and Construction Darcy Trufyn.

Siemens Gamesa wins 260-MW turbine order in Thailand
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has won an order for 103 G126 2.5-megawatt turbines totaling 260 MW for the Hanuman wind farm in Thailand, according to the company. The project is expected to begin operations by the end of 2018.

Mo. utility proposes new renewable energy buying program
Ameren Missouri proposed a new renewable energy buying program for its customers on Monday, dubbed the Renewable Choice Program. It said the program would give customers the option to purchase 100% of their electricity needs from wind.

Statoil uses drones to inspect UK offshore wind farm
Statoil and Martek Aviation have successfully completed a trial in which Martek used drones to inspect 100% of the 88 turbines at Statoil's Sheringham Shoal wind farm off the coast of England, said the companies. The inspection process required 200 flights, each of which took about eight minutes.

ERCOT: Texas installed wind capacity surpasses that of coal
ERCOT: Texas installed wind capacity surpasses that of coal

A new 155-megawatt wind farm came online in Texas this month, bringing the state's total installed wind capacity to more than 20,000 megawatts, according to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. ERCOT said the project puts Texas' wind capacity ahead of that of coal, which has a total capacity of 19,800 MW in the state.

Report: Germany's installed wind capacity surpasses 54 GW
Germany has an installed land-based and offshore wind capacity of about 54 gigawatts, putting the industry ahead of all other energy sources, including nuclear and coal, according to research group Fraunhofer ISE. Wind Power Europe added that for a period on Thursday, the country sourced about 46% of its total electricity needs from wind energy.

Analysis: Competitive bidding schemes are driving down Asian renewables pricing
Auction systems featuring competitive bidding are driving down renewable energy costs in Asia and leading to a boom in the industry's development. "Most regulators are discovering competitive auctions are better in capturing the actual cost of building renewable-energy projects," added Bloomberg New Energy Finance Head of Asia-Pacific Justin Wu.

Ever since the House released its tax reform proposal on Nov. 1, skeptics of wind power have jumped at the opportunity to spread misleading information, especially about the Production Tax Credit that has unleashed the private capital needed for wind to scale up.
