Report: Firms unveiled 11,571 MW worth of turbine orders in first half
Wind firms worldwide reported orders for turbines with a combined capacity of about 11,571 megawatts in the first half of 2017, down from 14,744 MW in orders in the second half of 2016, according to Navigant Research. The report said 29% of those orders came from the US, and that Vestas won more orders than any other company for the half.

N.Y. union group joins New York Offshore Wind Alliance
The New York State Building and Construction Trades Council -- a union group representing more than 200,000 workers -- has joined the New York Offshore Wind Alliance to advocate the industry's development in New York. "Offshore wind development will be good for Long Island and the whole state with good new union jobs and a new clean energy economy that will benefit everyone," said council President Jim Cahill.

Firms begin operations at 402-MW offshore wind farm in UK
Statoil, Masdar and Statkraft have begun operations at their 402-megawatt Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of England, featuring 67 6-MW machines from Siemens, said the companies. They added that the cost to build the project declined 15% since it was first introduced in 2014.

Siemens Gamesa to introduce new turbines this week
Siemens Gamesa will feature new land-based and offshore turbines at the WindEurope 2017 conference in Amsterdam Tuesday through Thursday, according to the company. It said the machines would be suited for a variety of sites to "better meet its customers' needs."

Allianz may acquire 100% stake in PNE Wind
Allianz Renewable Energy Fund II is in talks to acquire the remaining 20% stake in PNE Wind to become the full owner of the venture, according to the companies. If approved, Allianz would assume control of PNE's 142.5-megawatt wind portfolio.

Vt.'s new rules limiting turbine sound go into effect
The Vermont Public Utilities Commission's new sound requirements for wind turbines went into effect Wednesday. "This will certainly have a chilling effect on wind-energy in the state," said Renewable Energy Vermont Representative Austin Davis, adding that wind is still the most cost-effective renewable energy source in New England.
