Okla. House advances bill to change tax credits for wind

The Oklahoma House of Representatives has voted 51-46 to advance a bill that would change the state's wind energy tax credits by ending incentive payments for the industry beginning in 2019. The full state Senate will review the bill next.

N.Y. issues second RFP for up to 20 renewable energy projects
New York has launched a second request for proposals, this time to attract up to 20 renewable energy projects in support of its 50% by 2030 renewables goal. Its last RFP resulted in 26 new projects with a combined capacity of about 1,383 megawatts.

Siemens Gamesa to repower 3 NextEra wind farms
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has won a contract to repower three wind farms owned by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources in Texas. "As a multi-brand service provider, we can enhance the performance of V47 turbines with our cutting-edge solutions by delivering maximum performance and optimal energy output, allowing NextEra Energy Resources to achieve the best possible return on their investment," said Mark Albenze, CEO of Siemens Gamesa's Service Business Unit.

    NTR purchases 28-MW project in Ireland
    NTR has purchased the 12-turbine, 28-megawatt Aeolus in County Mayo, Ireland, from an undisclosed group of developers and will add it to its NTR Wind 1 fund portfolio, according to the company. "In just over three years, we have acquired 220 MW, with over 160 MW now constructed and producing clean energy," said Chief Investment Officer Manus O'Donnell.

    New company to inspect infrastructure via drone technology
    Aeronautical research firm Bihrle Applied Research has spun off its machine learning capabilities to form a new company, Ardenna, that will offer smart drone inspection services for the wind industry and other critical infrastructure, according to the company. "Operations and maintenance organizations have begun looking to drones as a new tool for monitoring the health of their assets," said Business Lead David Patterson.

    Obstruction lighting firm to develop solutions for offshore wind
    Technostrobe, a Canadian company that develops obstruction lighting solutions to guide aircraft, has purchased Dutch marine navigation specialist ITO Navaids, according to the company. The acquisition will allow it to begin offering obstruction lighting solutions for offshore wind farms both in Europe and North America, Technostrobe said.

    Report: Sweden poised to add 2.5 GW land-based wind capacity in 2018
    Sweden is expected to add 2.5 gigawatts of new installed land-based wind capacity in 2018, bringing the country's total to more than 9 GW, according to the Swedish Wind Energy Association. The report noted that land-based wind costs have declined dramatically.

    S.D. county to review, offer clarity on wind rules
    The Davison County, S.D., Planning and Zoning Commission has rejected a nine-turbine wind farm and scheduled a May 1 meeting to review the county's rules for wind development. Chairman Brenda Bode said since there aren't any pending applications, it's the ideal time to reassess guidelines for future projects.

    Pa. commission bars wind development in state game lands
    The Pennsylvania Game Commission unanimously adopted a moratorium Tuesday that would prevent wind projects from being constructed on 1.5 million acres of state game land. The commission has rejected 19 wind proposals since 2005.
