Analysis: Offshore wind farms are good for Americans' health
A single 1,100-megawatt offshore wind farm has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by 2.2 million tons annually plus reduces "air pollutants like fine particulate matter, nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide," writes Jonathan Buonocore of Harvard University. "While it may not be possible, practical or necessary to build offshore wind everywhere, even replacing a small portion of the nation's fossil-fueled electricity will be good for everyone's health," he writes.

US poised for huge offshore wind growth, says Deepwater legal counsel
Deepwater Wind's Block Island offshore wind farm marked the US' entry into the offshore wind industry, "paving the path for all of the wind energy offshore that's about to explode in the Northeast now," says Jerry Petros, a partner at Hinckley Allen and Deepwater's legal counsel. "It is unchartered water in the United States -- it's been done in Europe -- but finally someone took the lead and proved the proposition that you can do offshore wind here and do it effectively," he adds.

House subpanel to take up 3 offshore wind-related bills next week
The House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will begin reviewing three bills that would accelerate offshore wind development off the coast of the US on Tuesday.
