Will states continue to strengthen their RPS commitments?
Roughly 50% of the 29 states with renewable portfolio standards will meet their goals by 2021, leaving observers wondering whether lawmakers will, at that point, set tighter standards or allow the industry to advance on its own. Regional differences will be more important, says Lawrence Berkeley National Lab scientist Galen Barbose, noting how the East Coast tends to be RPS-driven, while Texas and the Midwest are more market-driven.

Energy Dept.: Wind dominates renewables in 16 states
Wind provides more electricity than any other renewable energy source in 16 states, says the Energy Department. The report says the US will likely source more electricity from wind than hydroelectricity by 2019.

Sierra Club spotlights 10 cities leading the clean energy transition
A report out from the Sierra Club highlights the activities of Denver, Orlando, Fla., and eight other US cities pursuing 100% clean energy. The organization says that more than 80 cities or communities in the US are pursuing such goals, and at least six have reached 100% clean energy.

Furniture supplier Herman Miller has signed a four-year power purchase agreement with Exelon subsidiary Constellation's 59.4-megawatt Harvest 2 project in Michigan. The deal will provide Herman Miller with 100% of the electricity needed to power its facility in Spring Lake, Mich.

Report: Europe poised to add 17.4GW of new wind capacity annually
Europe is expected to add 17.4 gigawatts of wind capacity each year, resulting in a total capacity of 258 gigawatts by 2022, WindEurope says. The report says larger land-based and offshore turbines will drive growth.

Dutch McDonald's to feature wind-powered EV charging stations
McDonald's has signed a deal with Vattenfall's Nuon to install 336 rapid-charging stations for electric vehicles across 168 locations in the Netherlands. The machines will be powered by Dutch wind farms.
