Analysis: Corporate collaboration can drive renewable VPPAs
Aggregation -- a process in which two or more corporate entities work together to acquire assets -- is a huge opportunity for virtual power purchase agreements with renewables, writes Roberto Zanchi, a senior associate at the Rocky Mountain Institute's Business Renewables Center. Akamai, Apple, Swiss Re and Etsy recently partnered, for example, to secure PPAs for 125 megawatts of wind and 165 MW of solar.

21 200-foot turbine blades are headed through R.I.
The Port of Davisville in Rhode Island has received 21 200-foot-long turbine blades and they're gradually being transported via truck to a site in Johnston, where Green Development is developing a 21-megawatt project. Each blade will travel on a single truck with a police escort.

Q&A: Drones, AI are revolutionizing wind inspections
Drones, artificial intelligence and special software are changing how wind turbines and industrial sites are inspected, says Vincent Lecrubier, co-founder of drone software company Sterblue. "Sterblue is both cheaper and faster than other traditional solutions, so we believe we could allow to increase the frequency of wind turbines inspections," he says.

Report: Giant turbines would make Sahara more inhabitable
Researchers have found that the widespread use of giant turbines in the Sahara would raise air temperatures, encourage more rainfall, increase ground-level wind speeds and overall make the semiarid region more inhabitable and able to grow produce. "Renewable energy can have multiple benefits for climate and sustainable development," wrote a group of University of Maryland researchers.
