Democratic and Republican lawmakers alike are lending their support to clean energy and the industry's ability to create reliable, high-paying jobs, Josh Siegel writes, noting an Environmental Entrepreneurs report that says the industry employs 3.2 million Americans in 42 states and Washington, D.C. Vineyard Wind chooses site for Mass. offshore wind hub
Vineyard Wind has signed an 18-month contract to use the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center's New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal as the primary port for an 800-megawatt offshore wind farm slated for the state. "By signing this lease agreement with Vineyard Wind, we have achieved another major milestone to secure long-term jobs and economic growth for the people of Massachusetts," says Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito.

Nestle Waters signs PPA with Engie North America project
Nestle Waters North America has entered into a power purchase agreement with a subsidiary of Engie North America for output from the 163-megawatt Midway project in San Patricio County, Texas. Nestle says the deal will provide more than 50% of the electricity needed for its Texas operations.

Ameren unit to buy 157-MW EDF Renewables project in Mo.
Ameren Missouri has agreed to purchase EDF Renewables North America's 157-megawatt Brickyard project under development in Atchison County, Mo., once it becomes operational in 2020. "Wind power, the largest source of US renewable electricity generating capacity, plays a key role at the center of our country's energy transformation," said EDF Senior Director of Power Marketing Dai Owen.

Skyline Renewables to buy 51% interest in 2 Texas projects
Skyline Renewables has agreed to purchase a 51% stake in Starwood Energy's Horse Creek and Electra projects in Texas, each of which has an installed capacity of 230 megawatts. "This is a very important step in our goal to become a leading independent clean energy platform with great assets that are well-positioned to take advantage of changing dynamics in the renewable energy industry," says Skyline President and CEO Martin Mugica.

Consortium plans 25-MW floating offshore wind site in Portugal
A consortium featuring EDP Renewables and other partners will invest about $144 million in a 25-megawatt floating offshore wind site over the next three years. The project will likely be located off the coast of northern Portugal.

Siemens Gamesa eyes new turbine-assembly plant in Taiwan
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has agreed to build a new plant for assembling turbines in Taiwan if it wins a contract to supply Orsted with machines for its 900-megawatt Greater Changhua offshore wind farm. The project would use 112 Siemens Gamesa units.

Omaha district aims for 50% retail electricity from renewables by 2030
Nebraska's Omaha Public Power District's board has proposed a move to generate at least 50% of its retail electricity through renewable sources while cutting its carbon intensity by a fifth by 2030. The renewable energy goal "will really work hand-in-glove with the reduction in carbon intensity," OPPD's Russ Baker says.
