Chocolate for Your Valentine? Make it Fair Trade and Organic and Spread the Love!

heartThe average consumer spends $122.98 on Valentine's Day, much of it spent on items that aren't particularly desirable: flowers grown with toxic chemicals, chocolate made under terrible working conditions, and destructively mined jewelry. This Valentine's Day, be a Conscious Consumer and express your love for your sweetheart and the planet by seeking out fair-trade, organic and/or ethical alternatives to these products.

The Conscious Consumer Marketplace can help. Looking for sweets? We've got a number of fair-trade, organic chocolate options for you to choose from. Maybe flowers is more your game? Browse for local or organic flower sources here. Need something really special for your special someone? Choose some vintage or fair-trade jewelry.

And while you're at it, take a second or two to tell Congress that our climate could use a little love and care too! Our partners at 1Sky have a launched a Valentine's Day call to action, click here to send your Reps a little tough love.
