The Governors' Wind & Solar Energy Coalition -- a bipartisan group of 20 governors -- has asked President Donald Trump to back wind, solar and other renewables. The coalition argues that the federal government should allocate more funds to grid modernization and clean energy research, adding that renewables are imperative to the economy of many rural communities.

Wind could become our main energy source, Minn. utility CEO says
Wind could become Great River Energy's new baseload, said CEO David Saggau of his Minnesota-based utility, which provides power to 28 electric co-ops. "I would suggest to you that wind is quickly becoming the new baseload; and to be viable going forward, all other sources must be flexible enough to be supplemental to the wind," he said at a recent Center for Energy and Environment forum.

Opinion: States, Cabinet can teach GOP lawmakers about clean energy
Republicans on Capitol Hill could boost job creation and set a national example by implementing some of the clean energy practices employed by some states and members of President Donald Trump's Cabinet, including former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, writes Heather Reams, managing director of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions. "The Trump administration and leaders in Congress would be wise to apply those lessons learned in states across the country to commonsense policymaking that benefits all Americans," she writes.

Analysis: N.D. lawmakers are divided over proposed wind policies
North Dakota state Rep. Mike Brandenburg, Sen. Jessica Unruh and other legislators are divided over the future of the state's policies on wind development and taxation, according to this piece. Wind supporters argue that a bill proposed by Unruh to change the allocation of taxes generated by wind would deter counties from approving new wind farms because they wouldn't receive the same financial benefits.
