Md. Senate votes to override veto on renewables standard
The Maryland Senate has followed in the state House of Delegates' footsteps and voted to override Gov. Larry Hogan's veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act, which will increase the state's renewable energy portfolio standard to 25% by 2020. "From the Free State's population hubs to majestic shores, this ensures more low-cost, homegrown American wind power reaches homeowners and businesses," said American Wind Energy Association CEO Tom Kiernan.

Swift Current purchases, renames 200-MW project in Ill.
Swift Current Energy has purchased Relight's 200-megawatt Meridien project in Illinois and named it HillTopper, said the companies. Swift added that it expects to finish the project by the end of 2018. (U.K.) (2/3)

States must take over on low-carbon initiatives, says defense council
US states may need to pick up where the Trump administration leaves off in terms of low-carbon initiatives, including renewable energy development, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. "Unfortunately, President Trump has ignored the entire burgeoning clean energy movement in his new so-called America First energy plan," said Lara Ettenson, director of the NRDC's California Energy Efficiency Policy, Energy and Transportation Program.

Fred Olsen seeks permit for Lake Erie offshore wind farm

Fred Olsen Renewables has submitted an application to the Ohio Power Siting Board for a state permit for its 20.7-megawatt, six-turbine Icebreaker offshore wind farm in Lake Erie, the company said. Allianz, Japanese bank back EDF Renewable wind farm in Okla.
Allianz Capital and Japanese bank Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group have invested an undisclosed sum in the 225-megawatt Great Western project owned by EDF Renewable Energy in Oklahoma. "The Great Western wind farm is a great example of three organizations coming together to help create an energy project that will provide clean, competitively priced and affordable power to Oklahoma residents for many years to come," said MUFG head of Leasing and Asset Finance Lance Markowitz.

GE looks into blade failure at Pa. wind farm
General Electric has opened an investigation into a failed turbine blade at the 39.9-megawatt Ringer Hill project in Pennsylvania, it said. The wind farm, which is owned by NJR Clean Energy Ventures, features 14 2.85-MW 103 turbines from GE. (U.K.) (2/3)

Minnesota has more than 100 businesses dedicated to serving renewables such as wind and solar through manufacturing, design, engineering and other supply chain applications, according to the Environmental Law & Policy Center. "Wind power and solar energy development drives economic and job growth," said Executive Director Howard Learner.

Irish university to invest about $11.3M in marine renewables project
Ireland's University College Cork has agreed to invest about $11.3 million in an EU project dedicated to researching marine renewables, including offshore wind and tidal power, said the school. It added that Marinet2 aims to help bring offshore renewable energy technology to the market at a faster rate.

Colo. regulators OK Xcel Energy's Rush Creek project
The Board of Commissioners in Elbert County, Colo., has unanimously granted Xcel Energy approval to move forward with its proposed 300-turbine Rush Creek Wind Project and corresponding 90-mile transmission line. Xcel said that it hopes to break ground on the project this spring.

Maryland lawmakers stand up for clean energy
The Maryland General Assembly voted to override Gov. Larry Hogan's veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act. That means more jobs, economic development and clean energy for Maryland families and businesses.
