Moratorium is crippling Maine's wind industry, says industry leader
A moratorium on new wind development and other unfriendly policies are hindering the progress of Maine wind industry, said Maine Renewable Energy Association Executive Director Jeremy Payne during the American Wind Energy Association's Northeast conference in June. AWEA noted that Maine is a national leader in terms of land-based wind capacity, but that growth has fallen off under the leadership of outgoing Gov. Paul LePage.

Opinion: Wind is good for Iowa, and bipartisan leaders know it
Wind energy is an important crop in Iowa -- and it's great that leaders like Gov. Kim Reynolds and gubernatorial candidate Fred Hubbell have a positive stance on the industry, writes Merlin Bartz, a Worth County supervisor. "Wind energy is good for the environment, good for the economy, good for the taxpayer, and good for rural Iowa," he writes.

N.C.'s wind moratorium could be renewed come Nov.
The North Carolina General Assembly ended its six-week summer legislative session without extending the state's current ban on wind development beyond Jan. 1, but industry leaders speculate the issue may arise when the body reconvenes in November. The future of the state's wind industry partially rides on an analysis regarding the energy source's impact on military radar, but the results have yet to be released.

MAKE: Market competition will lead to larger turbines
Competition between turbine manufacturers will continue to drive the creation of larger and larger machines, eventually leading to 5-megawatt land-based models and 12-MW to 15-MW offshore options, says consultancy MAKE. The report adds that the creation of larger units may result in some logistical challenges concerning transportation.
