N.Y. reveals offshore wind goal of 2.4 GW by 2030
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has released a strategy developed by the New York State Public Service Commission, mapping the state's plans to reach its 2.4 gigawatts by 2030 goal for offshore wind development. The strategy consists of multiple procurement rounds, with the first for 800 megawatts taking place by 2019.

MidAmerican to break ground on 90.8-MW Iowa project this month
MidAmerican Energy expects to break ground on a new wind farm in Grundy County, Iowa, this month that will have a total capacity of 90.8 megawatts, says the utility. The Ivester project will likely begin operations this year.

BayWa finalizes PPA for 101-MW wind farm in Calif.
BayWa has arranged a long-term power purchase agreement with utility MCE for its 101-megawatt Strauss project in Santa Barbara County, Calif., says the firm. The project will feature a total of 30 General Electric machines.

Electrical co-op to add 2 turbines at Mass. site
Massachusetts electrical cooperative Berkshire Wind Power Cooperative has confirmed plans to add two turbines at a 10-turbine project in Hancock, says the utility. The project will feature two additional 2.3-megawatt units.

The New England and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Councils have launched Offshore Wind in the Northeast Region, a website that provides stakeholders with information on offshore wind projects under development on the East Coast. The site contains Bureau of Ocean Energy Management documents, scheduled meetings and other relevant activities.

Deepwater Wind OKs plan to protect commercial fishing assets
Deepwater Wind has enacted a plan that seeks to protect commercial fishing gear located in areas where it plans to develop offshore wind farms, it says. California cut its greenhouse gas emissions below 1990 levels in 2016, reaching its 2020 GHG reduction goal four years early, according to the California Air Resources Board. The state is now working to reduce its emissions 40% below 1990 levels by 2030.
