The Wind Coalition, Dewey County, Okla., Commissioner Dillon Berry and other advocates met with Oklahoma legislators on Wednesday to promote the benefits of wind development and to call for policy stability for the industry. EDP Renewables North America Director of Government Affairs Vanessa Tutos said her company had planned to build more wind farms in the state, but has since relocated them due to unfavorable policies.

Poll: 75.5% of Okla. would-be voters support Wind Catcher
About three-quarters of likely voters in Oklahoma support the Wind Catcher Energy Connection project, with 45% of that total expressing strong support, according to SoonerPoll. "This is an extraordinary opportunity to significantly reduce costs for our customers by delivering clean, very low-priced Oklahoma wind energy," said Public Service Co. of Oklahoma Vice President of External Affairs John Harper.

CIP project in Texas to feature Vestas machines
Vestas has agreed to supply Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' Blue Cloud Wind Project in Texas with its V126 3.45-megawatt turbine series for a total capacity of 135 MW, according to the companies. "Vestas has proven itself during the construction of Bearkat I, and we are pleased to continue our successful partnership with Blue Cloud," said CIP Senior Partner Christian Skakkebaek.

Nordex signs 9-turbine supply deal in France
German sustainable investment firm Leonidas Associates has ordered nine N117/2400 turbines from Nordex for an unnamed 21.6-MW project in France, said the companies. Nordex said the model's low sound technology was a "decisive factor" in the deal.

SSE reaches first power at 228-MW site in Scotland
SSE has achieved first power at the 228-megawatt Stronelairg project in Great Glen, Scotland, which will eventually feature 53 V117 and 13 V112 3.45-MW turbines from Vestas, the company said. "Reaching this stage in the project is a testament to the hard work of SSE's Stronelairg team and our contractors," it added.

UK could add 1.3 GW of capacity by wind repowering, report shows
The UK could add 1.3 gigawatts of new wind generating capacity by upgrading and repowering its existing projects, according to the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit. The report said that almost 60 wind farms in England, Scotland and Wales featuring more than 750 turbines will turn 20 years old within the next five years.

Macquarie unit expands stake in 210-MW UK offshore wind farm
Energy investment arm Green Investment Group of Macquarie has purchased Marubeni's 25% interest in the 210-megawatt Westermost Rough offshore wind farm in the UK, bringing its total stake to 50%. Orsted controls the remaining 50%.

Okla. Legislature passes bill on wind projects near military bases
The Oklahoma Legislature advanced a measure on Wednesday that would block the construction of wind farms thought to have a negative impact on military operations. The bill would also require the military to consent to any planned wind project.
