AWEA, energy groups urge FERC to adopt Energy Dept. recommendations
The American Wind Energy Association and other groups are calling on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to adopt the changes recommended in the Energy Department's electric grid reliability report. AWEA Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs Amy Farrell said the wind industry welcomes using interstate electricity markets to resolve reliability concerns, but cautioned FERC against moving too quickly on new regulations.

Opinion: Land-based, offshore wind are the best way to curb emissions
A combination of land-based and offshore wind is the best way to naturally curb carbon dioxide emissions, writes Jim Neu. He argues that the Eugene Water & Electric Board's proposal to sell two of its wind farms is short-sighted and urges it to instead begin preparing for the phase out of natural gas.

Iowa's thriving renewables industry was "paramount" to Apple's decision to build two new wind-powered data centers in the state, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Cook lauded Iowa regulators, utilities and city officials for recognizing the role renewables play in attracting investments and working together to make a deal happen with Apple.

Harvey creates challenges for Texas wind farms
High wind speeds associated with Tropical Storm Harvey could force Texas wind farms with a combined capacity up to 3.6 gigawatts to temporarily shutter their operations, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Apex Clean Energy Senior Vice President of Project Development Jeff Ferguson said that if the storm hovers, operations may not resume until later this week.

Editorial: Trump should heed Energy Dept. grid reliability study
President Donald Trump should take note of the Energy Department's new electric grid reliability study, which attributes coal-burning power plant closures to low natural gas prices, not renewables, writes the editorial board of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Wind and solar power are playing an important role on the grid," the board writes, adding that renewables, energy efficiency and natural gas are also reducing the nation's overall energy needs.
